Grist State Park&#8221;&#8217; is a state park 15 miles north of [[Selma, Alabama | Selma]], Alabama, United States.<ref name="reference-1" /> Created in the early 1930&#8242;s as Valley Creek State Park, it provides outdoors recreation and leisure to residents of the surrounding area.<ref name="reference-2" /></p>
<p>==History==</p>
<p>Construction began on Grist State Park  (then known as Valley Creek State Park) in 1936 when the Civilian Conservation Corps  (CCC)was established within the park&#8217;s boundaries. Over a three year period, the CCC constructed roads, hiking trails, and a dam to create the lake. The park was renamed in honor of Paul Malone Grist, Director of the YMCA and the USO/YMCA Club in Selma.<ref name="reference-3" /></p>

<p>Grist State Park offers the following activities for visitors:<br />

* Fishing<br />
* Hiking<br />
* Camping<br />
* Boating<br />
* Picnicking<br />
* Children&#8217;s Playground</p>
<p>The park provides 6 RV sites with sewer, water, electrical hook-up and public restrooms. The park also has a 100-acre lake stocked with bass, catfish, blue gill, and red dear sunfish. Gasoline motors are not allowed, though they do allow electric trolling motors. Flat-bottom fishing boats are avaliable for rent, as well as a launching ramp for private boats.<ref name="reference-1" />  </p>
